When you think of pumpkin-growing states, Wyoming might not be the first to come to mind. However, Andy and Amy Corbin of Cheyenne have proven that big things can indeed grow in the Cowboy State.

The Corbins recently participated in the Fort Collins, CO Nursery Giant Pumpkin Weigh-Off, an annual event that attracts pumpkin growers from across the country. Held at the Fort Collins Nursery, it’s a showdown to determine who has cultivated the most colossal pumpkin.

This year, the Corbins made quite an entrance with their enormous pumpkin, securing not only the first-place spot and a coveted prize but also breaking Wyoming’s previous state record for the largest pumpkin.

Their pumpkin tipped the scales at a whopping 2,062 pounds, surpassing the old state record of 1,854 pounds. Remarkably, the Corbins had set the previous year’s record with a pumpkin of the same weight.

While they fell short of breaking the world record, held by Travis Gienger from Minnesota at an astounding 2,749 pounds, the Corbins are undeterred. Growing pumpkins is more than a competition for them; it’s a cherished hobby.

Andy Corbin expressed his passion for pumpkin cultivation, emphasizing that it’s a labor of love rather than a fierce rivalry. Although they harbor hopes of breaking the world record for the largest pumpkin ever grown, they are well aware that achieving this feat demands significant effort and adjustments in their growing techniques.

The Corbins’ success not only highlights their dedication to the art of pumpkin growing but also showcases Wyoming’s unexpected prowess in producing record-breaking pumpkins. As they aim for even greater heights, their story inspires both local and national admiration for the possibilities that can sprout from unexpected places.
